// help & faq

How can we help?

Common questions about ReleaseWriter. Don't see your answer? Email us at me@shabz.co — we respond quickly.

// getting started

No. ReleaseWriter works in standalone mode without any account. You can draft, edit, and translate your release notes entirely offline, then copy and paste them wherever you need.

Connecting your App Store Connect account is optional — it unlocks direct publishing so you can push notes live without leaving the app.

Go to Settings → App Store Connect in ReleaseWriter, then paste in your API key credentials (Issuer ID, Key ID, and the .p8 private key). These are stored securely in your macOS Keychain and never leave your device.

You can generate an API key in App Store Connect under Users & Access → Integrations → App Store Connect API.

ReleaseWriter requires macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later.

// ai features

Open a release in ReleaseWriter and click Draft from commits. Paste in the output of git log --oneline (or any list of changes), then hit Generate. The AI will turn your raw commit messages into polished, user-facing release notes.

ReleaseWriter offers four tone presets: Professional, Friendly, Concise, and Exciting. Select one and click Rewrite — the AI rewrites your notes to match that voice while preserving the content.

Only when you explicitly trigger an AI feature. The text of your release notes is sent to a third-party AI provider to generate a result — it is not stored, not used to train models, and not shared with any other party. No personally identifiable information is included.

See our Privacy Policy for full details.

// localization & translation

ReleaseWriter translates into all locales supported by the App Store, including English (US & UK), Japanese, German, French, Spanish (Mexico), Korean, Chinese (Simplified), Portuguese (Brazil), Italian, Dutch, Russian, and more.

Yes. Every translated locale is fully editable before you publish. ReleaseWriter also includes an AI translation verifier — it checks each locale for accuracy and natural phrasing so you can catch awkward phrasings before they go live.
